I'm assuming what I'm trying to do is see if the problem is in the dash-light circuit vs. the alternator truly not charging.
Am I correct in assuming that a) the light only indicates a difference in alt voltage vs. battery voltage and b) it is more likely a problem somewhere in the circuit given that the light doesn't come on at all? It seems like the light would come on if the alt wasn't charging. Assuming the light works but is not on, what are possible causes?
By the way, tested the battery with car off - 12.1 volts. With car on 11.5 volts. Went back up to 12.0 after switching off car.
