start on the suspension bits. Probably the best thing I have done to my '80 528i is to replace all of the suspension bushings. I'm sure others will pipe in with the more obvious bits, but these things often get overlooked and don't cost much to replace. After all these years, that rubber starts to show some wear. The difference in how tight the car feels is amazing.
