If the fuel pump is working, it really isn't worth the money to replace it. They work for a very, very long time. And, the early 530i pump is quite expensive.
If we're talking about truly preventative maintenance, I suggest replacing the belts, hoses, spark plug wires, and vacuum lines.
And, because it's a 530i, you could get rid of the those pesky thermal reactors.
