Bought some Hella low beam headlights with the higher intensity bulbs (100/80W) from ClassicGarage.com as one of the board posters suggested. They just arrived today and I need to install them to resolve the myopic projection of my current sealed beam halogen units. Before I begin, wanted to ask for some clarification. The multi-year, multi-model Chilton manual I have (you know the one), is a bit schizophrenic on this task. For headlight replacement, it first directs you inside the engine compartment to remove the (rear) headlight covers/protectors. Then, having exposed the rear flank so to speak, it directs you outside the car, to the front and has you do everything else...removing the retaining ring, disconnecting the lamps and replacing them...from the front (outside) of the car. If this is the case, why even remove the headlight protectors under the hood? For that matter, do you even need to pop the hood to replace the headlights? Thanks for any insight into this apparent disconnect. Steve G '79 528i
