The 302 is narrower than a 350 by a good margin. (The original Ford small-block was designed to fit between the shock towers of the Ford Falcon.) So, I think you are less likely to run into steering conflicts and the like. (Peter removed the E12 steering and used and E30 rack and pinion. I suspect that there is a good bit of "bump steer" in that setup.)
And, the 302 is lighter than a 350 also. It weighs about the same as the M30 you take out. And, with aluminum heads, manifold, and water pump, it could weigh 50-60 lbs less than the M30.
There are rear sump (fox) and front sump (early) pans available for the 302, so you can figure out what works for you.
