The clips are plastic and the four tangs or edges of them wear. I have replaced several from donor cars. If your trim pieces are bent, sometimes the inside channel becomes to wide to accept the tangs properly. Try squeezing the trim piece slightly so the channel will hold onto the plastic piece in the door. I don't know of a source to replace the plastic clips but perhaps someone else does.
