... the console/ e-brake tunnel, at least on mine. The electric seat switch console on this e28 was held on top of the carpet with a bolt/bracket type thing. I think it's also a separate piece from the shitfter console. So if you went with original manual seats and wouldn't need the electric seat switch console, and you'd have carpet all along the top 'o the tunnel.
Now all I have to do before I can install my new carpet is change out my clutch master & slave, as my existing tan carpet is sopped with brake fluid! BTW, Lars, sorry 'bout your clutch mis-hap, but that was one excellent story (posted further down)!! Inspired me to do something about that NOW (before I'm saying, "should have put it in sooner")
