My e12 has carpet on the floor of the trunk only. the rest is a shiny grey plastic that lines the rest of the trunk. The e28 trunk has carpet all around. Even on the piece that covers the tail lights. I think it will be a nice look if I can get it all to fit.
I think I may have to do a bit of trimming to get it to fit as it does not seem to be a plug and play install.
