I'm situated in a hot place....tropical Australia, it does sound like you are running too hot.With normal running, ie. not stuck in traffic, mine runs around 1/2 way on the gauge. Crawling in heavy traffic the needle climbs up but drops back quickly with increased speed.
Your radiator could still have blocked or clogged tubes, thermostat could be toast. Thermo fan could be stuffed too. Don't take chances, M30 engines 'cook' quickly( ask me how I know) also check that you have the correct cap on the coolant tank.
