It's a great idea to improve the efficiency of the speaker, but the volume (cubic volume, not loudness!) needs to be right for the speaker specification. A DECENT supplier will be able to tell you the free-air freq. response along with box volumes for sealed and ported enclosures. Don't forget that good car audio drivers were designed for free-air applications. Just putting a box around them without reference to the correct volume for flat frequency response will give you nasty peaks and troughs in the freq. response curve. (For non-audio heads, that means that some sounds will stick out or disappear where they're not meant to...)

BTW, I agree on the subwoofer and seperate amps. Just remember that the amps need lots of clean power with maximum amperage to get clean sound out of their claimed performance. Your 12V 2core flex on will not cut it here for the kind of power required to move a coil inside a magnet the size of a 12 or 15inch sub. Remember WATTS = AMPS x VOLTS, so your 10amp radio circuit will not give the 300watts of clean power required to drive a decent sub. Go large, keep it clean, and have someone install whatever electrickery is needed to deliver high noiseless amperes!
