Consider replacing the pilot bushing while you're in there. If it even looks old, it's fired. Pack the back of the seal with grease. Don't forget a skosh of green threadlocker on the perimeter of the new seal during installation. That area where the seal rests is often scratched. The threadlocker fills the valleys.
You got the threadlocker out, anyway, for the flywheel bolts. All my tranny seal work used to leak until I started using threadlocker-green. It's the weakest compound.
