I too had been noticing increasing difficulty in starting even though I had a new, strong battery. This weekend the ignition switch literally fell apart. I cleaned it, put it back together, and could get power in the "on" position but nothing at "start." I wired in a push button at the cable end and now the car cranks strongly and starts immediately. Final proof comes this weekend when I install the new switch.
