Before any more parts are replaced, try (or have someone else try) to remove the switch and try it with a screwdriver in the slot. It really isn't very hard to remove, I'm sure you could do it yourself. Just take it out and stick a screwdriver in the end (I think the switch end has a recess, but it might be the other way) and turn it and see what happens. But before you do that, but after you have the switch out, try the key and see what happens. You may need to be quick turning the switch back from the start position, I can't remember which part, the key lock or the switch, has the spring in it that pushes the key back from the start position to the run position. But if need be, you want to be ready to quickly turn the switch back a bit so the starter isn't running with the engine running. Not good for starters or your ears.

If this doesn't quite make sense, let me know and I'll try to clarify.
