Dave,
There are a few calculation web pages out there that might help you but they will just tell you you will be running slow or fast.
I do a lot of trading with a VDO shop in Orlando, FL that really knows what he is doing. Just tell him to put his glasses on. (Inside joke with him.)He has really helped out a lot of my customers who don't want to do the fixing themselves or in your case, don't have the equipment. Call Mike White at 407-896-4664.
If you want to try it yourself, hmmm I am thinking... Yes Peter I do think before I speak sometimes... Get the following items and this may work.
A handheld GPS so you know your true speed.
A co-pilot so you don't crash
An extention for your speedo cable so it runs to the passenger side without interfering with the pedals.
First, see which way you are off. The odometer doesn't matter yet. It is calibrated independently of the speedo. Mark with tape and pen where the needle rests when it's over the stop pin. Carefully take the needle off. Call me and I can tell you how without breaking it. Remove the face. I believe there is a spring and screw that you can adjust. This part is a guess. Now drive the car and make some changes. What is the worst that can happen? You have to send it off now anyway.
To adjust the odometer, just change the tooth count. The more teeth, the slower it runs and vice versa. I don't have more than a 21 tooth and less than a 10 tooth. I do have almost all inbetween.
The needle will come off only if you lift straight up from under it. DO NOT lift the plastic. There is a metal disk that is under the plastic that you want to lift on. Use a plastic picnic fork or something like that. Tape the face so you don't mark it up.
Call if you need.
