If it were me, I'd just have two E12s (wait a minute - I do :-) I think the relative rarity of the 520i (they ain't makin' any more!) these days, even in Europe where they're hitting the crusher, makes it an interesting 12er (plus the looks of the early cars are better, IMHO). I know the K-Jet you have is a little unreliable, but I'd probably go the restoration route with the 520i, within budget, of course.
But I guess it depends how much you like the car.
