Yes, just the other day a genuine 1980 M535i came up for sale over here for 7500 AUD, and I saw a 1980 528i for 2,200. So maybe it would be wiser to buy a second car?
It seems a bit of a waste to ditch an almost perfectly working M10/4 speed, I can sympathise about the feeling of lack of low end grunt, and that's where the SC 14 blower could help. You could fit it, it wouldn't cause that much disruption and 6/7 psi boost would go a long way and cause no harm to the M10.
