Early cars (prior to 8/76) share front struts with the e3 and e9 models, and use a different strut insert than later cars. Apparently the Sport for these cars is NLA. The HD is fine as long as you are not installing really short springs, I have been told the valving is the same as the Sport.
My '75 has Sports all around, but they were installed some years ago by a PO.
I suppose you could swap in later front strut housings, I'm not sure if you need to change any other components to do that. Maybe someone else can chime in?
