I would strongly suggest a 528i over a 530i. But the 528 started in 79 so it could be what you are looking at. 530's are rated at slightly more power, the 3.0 liter was rated at 176 and the 2.8 528i was rated at 169, but the road tests always showed the 528i to be faster. They also got better mileage, ran cooler, lasted longer etc. Bodywise there isn't any real difference, a few changes from year to year, but engine management is so much better on 528's.
