How about "what is the transfer switch"? I've never heard of it.
Quickest way to tell is check the output of the alt with a voltmeter. Ideally you'll see close to 13v at idle, up to about 14v when revving.
Also worth noting -- the charging circuit includes the Alternator light in the dash cluster. If it burns out, no chargee.
