I have just been dealing with some leaky injectors on my 77, 530i. I stripped out the fuel rail and replaced all the seals (which were like very hard plastic) and all the hoses. There's a lot of potential for leaking because of all the clamps (about 22) and little pieces of hose (530i fuel rail is a little different than later cars, I understand). There's also a significant amount of pressure in the system. So, an injector leak on a car that's over 20 years old is certainly possible.
If you do go in to fix the leak, you might as well get new seals, clamps, hoses and get your injectors ultrasonically cleaned while you're at it.
Your Goodyear guy sounds a bit fishy--I would get a second opinion on the source of the leak. Whether it's actually dripping on the exhaust manifold or not, you don't want fuel straying around in your engine bay!
Good luck--DScott
