Hmm the joy of starter removale. Generally you need lots of time and patience, I'm ok with the time not the patience. Removing the last intake mainfold does help, also trying from underneath the car. I also ground down a spanner to make it thinner so it fits in the gap easier, I have also done the same with a socket.
When I eventually got the starter motor out (I always replace them with a reconditioned unit as it is such a pig of a job) I grind a slot in the bolt so it can be tightened up and released with a large screw driver.
