That connect the injectors to the rail. They develop cracks from age and leak some fuel. My old '81 528i did the same thing and the smell was horrid when I would park the car (when it was at its worst) even though the culprit hose wasn't leaking that badly. I had to pull the intake runners to get in there and pull out the fuel rail and put new hoses on. It was a simple job, but time consuming.
