If the problem is slow cranking, the first thing to do is clean all the cable connections at the battery and starter, including the grounds, and make sure the cables are in good nick.

If it's more of a "cranks strong but long" thing, that sounds more like cold start valve or thermo switch. Either can prevent the proper enrichment for starting. The L-jet resources in the tech section of this board can help you diagnose.
