don.....
smog concerns with a late model v-8 powerplant swap are no more difficult than the 1.3 motronic motor you swapped into your earlier v-12.
ive talked to a couple of smog referees, and the consensus is ....."if the motor retains the listed emmisions euipment for the donor year".it should glide through.
i have one customer whose running an ls-1 in an early 911.........it tests far cleaner than than the boxer six it replaced.
weightwise.......an all aluminum or aluminum headed sb ford or chevy will weigh in at less than an m30.
i have several thoughts in mind.........either a huge displacement m30 (s38 based 3.8 w/late b35 single cam head ) an M based twin cam 3.2 from an e36 M3 with a vortech style blower........or an american V-8.
costwise the V-8 is the least expensive way to gain 300 plus horsepower...and after mocking one up........it really shouldnt be that difficult.
