From having '79, '80, '81's I say they are the same. If there are differences, I've not noticed.
I know '81's went (cheesy) with plastic mirrors, different tabs to mount wood trim, thinner metal on the airbox, etc. as performance, " weight saving" measure. Maybe slightly thinner steel?
I know you can lean on newer Japan cars and dent them.
