Does anyone know if a 1983 528 5 speed will bolt onto a 1976 530i engine?
The present 4 speed from the 530i can be separated from the bell housing.
I found a 1983 528i entire car at a junkyard and that car's 5-speed transmission bell housing & trans. is cast into one piece. The bell housing bolt pattern appears to match the 530i engine.
My 530i crankshaft pilot bearing was the needle bearing type.
Has anyone done this conversion?
Or maybe I should look for a 5 speed from a 535 or 533? or perhaps another year 528 5 speed is better or easier to install ?
It would be nice to have a tall gear for cruising. I assume the 5 speed's 5th gear has some overdrive and is not direct 1:1 like the present 4 speed
Any advice is appreciated
