Not sure, but I think the original plugs for the 528 has silver electrodes (Bosch WR9DS).

Water Pump...

A bad water pump can definitely cause it to run hot. At about 50,000 miles, my original pump died and left me stranded on a trip. I made it to the nearest BMW dealer at the time. I just recently had an over heating problem. I thought a noise coming from the engine compartment was the air pump. Not ...

I wanted to say Thanks to Frank for selling me the mystery cable that connects the right side mirror. Works great. It's a satisfying feeling (though fleeting if you know what I mean) to have everything on the 530 work correctly.

I thought I had the same problem, and wrestled a box end wrench (10mm?) on it. It was tight. It tuned out to be the bearing in the water pump going south that made the whole thing wobble. I ended up taking the radiator out anyway to change the water pump. Not too bad. I'm thinking about just using ...

I've used both yellow and red tops, but not in the 530. I have a "lifetime" J.C. Battery in her (now Exide). I've had good experience with the yellow tops in my Dodge 3500 Ram Cummins (2 batteries). It sits for long periods. Before I modified the camper to use solar and also keep all the batteries ...

Final Solution (if you're really fussy, i.e. anal)

Well I couldn't find a sheetmetal type socket in the plumbing section of Lowes. So I took a deep 27mm socket and machined the top 1/2' or so down to 1 1/4" hex using a Bridgeport mill and carbide end mill. It now looks like a spark plug socket. Then I used a 11mm 3/8 drive socket with a 3" extension ...

Yes!

That's what I was talking about - a sheetmetal type socket. I'm off to Lowes. Thanks for your reply, my stress is reduced!

Torque Front Shock Tower Nut?

I'm sure this question is easy for most of you, but the self locking nut on the front shock absorber - how and with what do you torque it with? I don't see how you can torque the nut and hold the shaft (hex on top) at the same time. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'd like to make sure it ...

Sorry - I wasn't very clear.

I got the wiring harness for the passenger side and installed it (major pain) but there is a round connector on both the left (original) and the new right door harness. So there must be a cable that goes from the left to the right to control the right side mirror. I've got the mirror, right harness ...

Right Mirror 535 interconnect Harness Fit 530?

It's really bugging me to manually move my "new" passenger side mirror by hand. So I spent some time looking in the webetk and found one for the 535 that fits the e28's. Anyone know if it would fit the 530 before I spend the money for a new one. Anyone have a used one they would like to sell me? I ...

Thanks for the replies...

I emptied the oil and installed the shock and torqued the nut to 90 ft/lbs (the manual stated 87 - 110 ft/lbs and it helped to have the Bilstein gland nut tool for this). I was a little concerned that the collar nut only screwed in enough to cover the threads but didn't seat in completely. I assume ...

Very Professional

Excellent write-up! This should definitely be added to the Technical FAQ. I'm having the same issue with the Fog Light Switch and would think this applies. This is an example of how a technical FAQ should be written - clear, thorough but concise and well illustrated. Excellent job!!!
