Check Oil light on - buzzing via stereo - ground?

Just came back in from a 90 mile LA circuit drive, backing into driveway, noticed a buzzing from the stereo rear speakers, and then when I turned around saw the oil check light was on. Oil level was topped up, so I suspect this is electrical or faulty sensor. No oil leaks, no odd noises from engine ...

Wow, very scary. Hoping it's a clogged cat - had that happen once after plug wires failed and car dumped some gas into cat, which overheated, rotted and clogged insides, leaving me stalled at the Grapevine/I-5. Very unpleasant week. No crunchy sounds, car just went from 70mph down to unable to get ...

checked my photo archive from the 535is, sure enough, yep, ceramics. Memory's getting munged from too many cars and distance between them.

Question is though, I DID work on pulling a fusebox from an E28 (I think it was a 528e - mid 80's maybe) at the pick n pull becuase it had what I thought were ...

Actually, I owned a late-build 1988 E28 535is which had the more modern fuses. The thought crossed my mind when I pulled the rear package shelf and speakers from an e28 528e which had the newer fusebox also. The pres-in fuses and general box seal always seemed better than the loosey spring-clip ...

Yep, always keep extra (good) relays in glovebox. My issue was battery, pretty surprised I was able to keep driving it for a week and 500 miles, but new batt, cables, cleaned connectors and all is back to normal.

I'll second freeze 12. Discovered it when I first got the e12, been using it ever since. Hard to find in Cali, so I had to order cases from the distributor, but has been worth it.

Mad scramble to try to get parts before everybody jets for the holiday, annnnnnddd....

Dealing with a similar issue. Hit the horn one day and all electric access went wild - temp gauge wildly fluctuating, headlight cutting out. Finally realized that keeping a foot on the accel kept the access from cutting out and had to drive back to Mountain View toggling between neutral and gear so ...

Understood. I've been trying to diag this while 400 miles from home, with little daylight time or tools, but am back home for the weekend and will tackle again tomorrow.

I replaced the voltage reg, which seems to have helped just a little, but there's clearly something awry, next on my list are ...

Feeling much better and planning to dive into fixing this.

Does anyone know what the function is of the electrical switch is on the accelerator pedal? The one that is in closed position when the pedal is not depressed? I suspect that circuit is part of the trouble.

Other issues are probably ground ...

Fusebox upgrade?

I was at a pick n pull a while back ogling parts off an 1985 528e, and really like the modern style fusebox.

Has anyone tried upgrading to the newer style e28 fusebox? I really don't trust the old e12 unit's finickyness (but I'll make do if no other option).

Sudden bizzaro electrical outage related to accel pedal

Have a sudden bizzaro electrical problem which appeared last night.

When accelerator pedal is pushed away from rest slightly, all lights/access are ok, but oil light stays on when headlights are on. Temp gauges fluctuates tick-tock or wildly back and forth.

When accelerator pedal is released ...

Lug nut replacement in Silicon Valley?

I'm on a project in Mountain View CA and just discovered that I lost a lug nut after swapping for my road trip wheels in LA.

I'm going to check to see if any local shps have an extra, but thought I'd drop a quick request on the list if somebody is nearby - I'll be up in SF Monday also, if that's ...

Just had a chat with my mech (car was in having clutch replacement done), he indicated it's usually hard to engage, but they could fit/fiddle with the spring to make it a bit harder to enage.

Thanks for the feedback!

Reverse gear lockout or indicator mod?

I'm not sure about anyone else, but the reverse on my 5-speed seems a little too easy to mix with 1st on engagement. I can't remember how my 88 535is was setup, but I don't recall ever feeling as iffy about 1st vs R engage when driving it (sold it last year, hadn't driven it in 4 yrs).

Was there ...
