I know its been a few months but here's what we got when the guibo on our 1975 530i race car failed going down the straight. Driveshaft came loose and destroyed the output shaft, tore off the exhaust and bent the shifter linkage in a U-shape.

Phew. Been a while since we posted.

We ran the race a few weeks ago... and... well. Lets just say attempting to race a 35 year old car was a little ambitious.

First day went ok, despite the shifter linkage falling apart and it taking two hours to remove the driveshaft and put it back together ...

So, back from vacation and time to really get this car ready to race.

Our first major hurdle is the shifter...there is so much slack that it feels like its in neutral when its in 1st. How easy is it to replace the shifter bushings?

We've also heard that the easiest way to get a short-shifter ...

If you have a $500 limit can you afford to paint it? It won't go faster in white, I don't think.

Paint and other "theme" things dont count toward the $500.

In other news, we've secured a sponsor for the cage. Unobtainium Welding is doing it for just the cost of materials.

We'll be stripping ...

Re: green on white

Zaider, I like the green color.
What is all that white stuff on the ground?

LOL. The car will be getting painted. We're currently thinking the classic white with the three BMW stripes, but... we'll see.

The white stuff? Oh, that's just the colour of the ground up here in Canada. Well, for 8 ...

Looks like a good base for your project...it should be a 75 or 76 with the early style hood and the interior looks very clean. Check for stress cracking at the body to rear diff mount and have fun!

Hmm. The registration says it is a 1977, could it just be an early variant?

Does it run? If yes ...

1977 530i as a Chump Car

Hey Everyone,

New member here and looking for some information. My friends and I have just purchased a '77 530i which we are planning on using as a Chump Car entry.

For those of you unfamiliar with Chump Car, the premise is that you bring and race a $500 car. The event here in Calgary is two 7 ...
