charcoal canister

Post by Robert Bondi »

Anybody using an aftermarket version of this? After a short local look hoping for a little success (none) with a Purolator # on the OEM part, I bit
the bullet on the Bav Auto part for $113! It should be full of gold for that price.

It seems so simple and generic that a NAPA or the like should have something workable.

I passed emissions on a day when everything cooperated. The very next drive, I end up extra rich when I get home and realize the gurgling under the hood is associated somehow with gas getting sucked into the canister.

Lucky everything came together for smog.
This is off-topic, and I know that Albuquerque is not small, but, I may have an ex-girlfriend there. Do you, by any chance know a 'G.G.' (Glenda Gayle)? Her maiden name is Money. I know, but it really is, I saw her driver's license. I met her in Hattiesburg, Miss. She kept gettin' in my face, then one evening she helped the Grip Dept. with a ride to our hotel & I got weak. I was gettin' weak anyway!
The whole crew, not just the Grips, found her to be a very nice super sweet chick. She became an Honorary Grip, with her own chair whenever she showed up, which was a lot.
She was outta place in Mississippi & fled to Albuquerque to stay with her sister, whose name I don't know. Ohh, I have stories!
End of this story,,,,Greg

perhaps your evap/vac hoses are mis-routed? The canister shouldn't collect liquid gas, just gas vapor.

I don't think there can be any serious misrouting issues. It's been that way for 10+ years. Only question came up last week when I pulled it. If the canister operation is directional, it would be easy to mix up I/O at the canister.

I'd still like to see an explanation on why this source of unmetered air is apparanently OK for the engine. It's apparently designed to suck in ambient air along with the gasoline vapors upstream of the AFM.

because its not a free flowing system of air; as the gas tank gets hot during the day gasoline vapors expand and try and escape, assuming you have a gas cap the only way to go is out a vent valve into a canister that basically holds the vapors. Now when u open the throttle it creates a vacuum that for the most part is filled with ambient air, the small +/-10oz container of gasoline vapors(well mostly charcoal anyways) are relativity unnoticed by an engine running at WOT.
it is basically a more efficient way of using fossil fuels in comparison to storing ur gass in a wash tub.
