76 530i Fuel line routing to fuel rail?

Post by canada karl »

I'm on the last part of reassembly after head gasket change. 1.On the fuel rail... does the inlet fuel hose go to the L shaped outlet on the pressure regulator? 2. On the upper fuel rail hose there is a "T "connection. Does the vertical tube outlet on the "T" connect to a hose that goes under the #6 intake runner? Is this the fuel return hose? Thanks for any input?

Correction on my last question.

I found the correct fuel line return hose. I assume it connects to the T fitting on the fuel rail? Where does the 1/4 hose that goes into the block under the #6 runner connect to?

Maybe www.bmwtechinfo.com has photos. Not very good but a chance.

http://www.bmwtechinfo.com/repair/main/057en/index.htm

Should have something there to show it (use that link if you have aren't running Windows, as it will complain if you just go to the website).

Also, take a look at the exploded views on RealOEM:

I should be able to figure out the hose and vacuum connections now. I have a bill from the PO dated 1989 showing that a short engine was installed 11001264756(in 1989 for $5597.03 with Labour etc.) I wonder if this was an engine replacement due to overheating from the thermal reactors causing a blown headgasket..maybe even covered by BMW's free extended warranty on that issue? At any rate this replacement engine does not have the air pump or the big EGRvalve or the colour coded control valves so all that must have been removed when they put the new engine in. So my engine does not look like the pictures for the original 530i and yet it is different from pictures of the 528i! However with the bmwtechinfo and realoem I should be able to figure it out. Does anyone have a "generic "serial number for a 528i so that I can type that in to realoem to access that file instead of the 530i? I think my engine might be a modification of the two in terms of various hose connections. :)

On realoem I just fill out the inquiry boxes ( archive, etc.) '78 to '81 528i stuff is all very close to the same, even the euro drawings if you are not looking to buy a very specific part.

Karl, you're probably exactly right. Lose the thermal reactors.
Being in Canada, do you need any of this restricive stuff?
