Aux air vs. none

Post by KenB »

I used to have an 80 with the aux air valve on the valve cover. Now I have a 79 and noticed there is none. This must be one of very few differences between the two years. What is the effect of this difference?

I would say that a 1979 with a 5-speed conversion is the best e12 to have. At least in the USA. I'm sure someone will disagree with that though. :)

79 and earlier still have an aux air valve, but not on the valve cover. The earlier years have it located down and below in between intake runners 3 and 4 as viewed from the driver side. Earlier style is heated by coolant, while the valve-mounted style warms up from just engine heat and a resistive heater.
