Expansion tank hose routing

Feel dumb asking, but where does the hose coming out from right below the coolant expansion tank cap route to? Not the larger hose on the underside but the smaller diameter hose right under the cap. Does it simply route down to vent out under the car or does it connect somewhere? The one on my son's car is gone all together.

There might be kind of a sheetmetal hook it goes into on the way down (or am I thinking of E28s or just imagining it altogether?) but it basically just goes down to dump on the ground.

Exit hole is under the power steering reservoir in the sheet metal, right next to the frame rail. Kinda sorta where the rail starts to bend upward.
