Throttle switch adjustment...530i

Post by canada karl »

In the Faq it says: 7.Turn the idle screw one more turn clockwise(opening the throttle plate slightly). Is it possible that due to overall slop in the linkage that it might be necessary to turn the screw more than one turn to get the plate to open slightly? There is a tiny air hole in the the throttle bore. Should you be able to see this hole if the throttle plate is adjusted correctly or is the plate open way too much? Trying to track down down a starting issue...takes about three turns of the key to get the motor to fire. Ignition parts are new and timing is set properly. Car runs fine once started.

The throttle plate isn't your problem with hard starting. The adjustment is to prevent the butterfly from binding from the closed position. The bypass in the throttle body is the air adjustment. You might have a leaky fuel pressure regulator or check valve in the fuel pump, or a worn AFM. Maybe even a bad FI temp sensor.
