I have to physically turn the key back or the starter will just keep running, and of course it feels like gum is stuck in there or something gooey like that. Everything else works electrically, just a failed return spring kinda thing. Its been this way for a couple years of my off and on daily driving and Im tired of it!
I seem to recall a tech article about how to disassemble this part, fix it, and reinstall but cant seem to find it here. Anybody know where that article is?

I think you need a new switch, as opposed to needing a new lock. It's tight, but it comes out in spite of what you will be thinking. Not really a difficult job even. Granted I've never had it happen, but I've never even fixed one of those!

hmmm
I'm seriously considering wiring in a switch and a button in some non obvious way as opposed to trying to hunt down the right part and spend better part of a day or so trying to replace the ignition switch/tumbler/whatever part.
Just not sure how this will play out! Thank you for the info so far, and if anyone knows where I can get the part I need that just might settle it for me

cool
thank you sir, I will check in with him.
Re: hmmm
The switch and the lock are two very different parts. The switches were used pretty much across the board til about 85 or 86. The lock is much more challenging.ericindenver wrote:I'm seriously considering wiring in a switch and a button in some non obvious way as opposed to trying to hunt down the right part and spend better part of a day or so trying to replace the ignition switch/tumbler/whatever part.

custom switch
Yea, I have kinda caught on that the lock itself is the PITA and as I'm in no way trying to keep originality, so I'm strongly considering a custom switch and start button instead of messing with the factory lock or switch at all?!
Just in limbo at the moment.... along with what motor to replace the old one with....or what to do about the old faded paint, dents and hood that needs replaced... etc, etc....all while hoping someone will steal it so I can quit burning time and money on a car not worth the parts I've bought for it in the last couple months alone!
But then when considering that payments of $4,000 or so a year go wasted on depreciation of a newer car, I think that could make a lot of improvements to this old car and in a couple years could be great!
