Dash Recovering, anyone?

Hi folks,

Has anyone had any success recovering their dashboard? I have the standard set of sun cracks across mine, and I'm considering pulling it and applying something new over top of what's left.

Soliciting opinions and recommendations on suppliers and supplies. :)

I too am interested, although I'm very happy with my dash mat purchase presently.

May want to investigate local companies that do it. 3M makes new things to fix vinyl bumpers; fillers, adhesives, paint. A friend had a truck dash done, filled, painted in place as new. Unfortunately my enthusiasm later heard it reverted back and was replaced free.

All I know: pulling one to replace it would be a monster project.

I've thought about taking upholstery vinyl or this pseudo leather they have for dressmaking and trying to cover the dash. I'd just glue it on. Hardest thing to me seems like it would be the little tray on the passenger side and getting it smooth and flush. It's down there about number 1128 on my list of things to do. :D

There are a couple of places that recover dashes. There are a bunch of people on the 6er forum over at bimmerforums doing a group buy right now. I think the group price was $750. Others who have done it individually say it was more like $1000 typically, but the results were an essentially new dash.
