removing the fuel rail

How do you do this? Remove the intake runners?
I've searched the board and can't find a post or technical faq.
Looking at the intake manifold/etc. the rail is so completely embedded in there, it feels like I need to remove the whole assembly. I'm hoping this is not true. I just bought rebuild injectors and want to swap them in.
Can someone point me in the right direction on this? I'd be happy to document it and do a write up for the FAQ as a thank you.

I guess the FAQ doesn't start where it should. Yes, I would remove the intake runners.
Maybe it's possible to do it without removing them, but the little red fiber gaskets that go on the flange bolts are picky enough without having to hang from a rope with a flash light taped to your head.
When I've done such things it's been an exercise in fun, inspecting parts to like new standards, clean, polish, learn. Thus, I never need the car to run by a deadline. Big factor in keeping everything fun.

Runner gaskets are cheap.....
Ideally you number the runners .....then pull
New injectors

Completed my injector installation on Friday. Cleaned up the intake runners and reinstalled. I had to replace several of the injector plugs. It took me one mussed up one (wound up pulling one of the wire-ends off the harness) before I figured out how to remove the wire-ends from the old, cracked plugs.
It was pretty easy, basically, you take a straight pick and insert it into the wire-end retainer opening on the female side of the plug. This releases the wire-end from the plug - you need to bend the little metal retainer on the wire-end back up again so it will catch in the new plug.
The first time I tried just pulling it out with force :p - dumb idea. The second wire-end came flying out and took a nice little chunk of flesh out of my left middle finger. Lots of blood. Sophomore move...
I noticed a puddling of oil underneath the starter. Quite a bit of oil, in fact. The hard-line from the EGR valve (wrapped in braided cloth) is saturated in oil. Any ideas where this oil could be coming from? It's not coming from the valve cover or the intake runners (severe blow-by). Is it possible that it's return oil from the EGR system leaking out of the hard-line? Seems like a vacuum leak in the EGR system would cause some rough running. As it is the engine is running really smooth.
I was going to just pull the injectors from my parts car, but rebuilt injectors were $30. I'm amazed by this. I never thought OEM parts for BMW's would be so affordable. Similar injectors for my old P1800E were $130...
It was easier than I thought it would be to install the injectors. I left the intake manifold in place, removed only the intake runners. I had to remove the EGR valve coupling to get a ratchet to the lower bolts of the two middle runners. Not that big of a deal. I also replaced all of the fuel hose with new stuff from a nearby BM'r dealership (wow, $$$). The had shiny new Euro hoseclamps, too. Couldn't resist, despite the sticker shock ($3 each??!!).
I'm looking forward to upgrading to later fuel injection when I do my engine swap. There are so many additional hoses and lines thanks to the EGR stuff, etc. 528i's look a lot neater and significantly more austere...
