Reinstalling. With the wires connected, should turning the key on see the fuel gauge jump ?

Far as I know, fuses good, wires to tach correct, the side multiplugs, top left plug ( all connections ) clicked, good. Turn the key, battery light illuminates, headlights, gauge lights, but the gas gauge doesn't jump. Tach doesn't work with engine running.

Must everything be fully assembled ? Speedometer cable, window circuit breakers, steering wheel on ?

Or is it just and wire wiggling exercise until the culprit pops on ?

Never mind.

Thanks to the FAQ writers for the lovely photos, to see how the tach wires connect. Turns out, if you make a note with a dull pencil on a paper towel that the black wire goes in the middle, it leaves options for the power, ground connections. The wrong choice blows a fuse, which is not easy to see,...

Busted odometer is fixed like new, only because Mr. Jeff Kaplan got crabby a few years ago, to heck with the huge total unit replacement costs, I'm going to make the weeny teeny gears myself. That, and he answers emails, phone calls right now, as if I was important and knew what I was doing.

Tell everyone. Twiddle it, put it in your face nook. He deserves to retire early and own a racing team.
