I have a 79 528i that sat for 4 years. I tried to start it recently to no avail. I have fuel, but intermittant spark at plug wires. I had a new double relay that I installed, along with new cap, rotor and spark plugs. I even tried another ecu from another car, no fire. I removed the air filter box and tube to the airflow meter. I then soaked a rag with gas and stuffed it in the air flow meter and the car started, ran for1 to 2 seconds and then stopped. I tried to duplicate, but now it just cranks. help Dan

Check the grounds. Also, try tapping the Ignition Control Module. You might have a broken solder joint in there.

First off, ignition and fuel are two different systems only briefly connected. You of course need good spark, check the distributor and things related. You can often rock the rotor back and forth and check for spark that way. If spark is weak, you could be flooded by now, pull the plugs and check for gas, that at least points you in one direction or the other.

get a noid light to plug into an injector lead. if it flickers while trying to start car, then you are getting pulse from vr sender(pulse module) in distributor.
low battery=slow cranking rpm=low vr signal, try charging battery & jumping car with another.
good luck

it's good for the vr sender in the distributor,if you have pulse & no spark then look at coil for power next.
