528 to 635 head swap

Post by T.Hanson »

Forgot what I've read. I have a new style 528 head with good cam. If, when I rebuild the Euro 635 (old style head) will the new style 528 head/cam bolt right on, be correct ?

It depends. What year is the 635, is it Motronic or L-jet? If it's Motronic it needs a motronic cam. The head casting will work, if it's a 93.4 3453, 3.5 you will need the early 3.5 head gasket.

Early ( '78,'79 Euro) L-jet engine.

I will read previous posts. Plan is to strip the rusted (floors, shock towers) hulk, find a rust free body, etc.

Just curious dreaming if the 528 head, cam can be gone through, swapped over. Sounds like yes, while paying attention to the head gasket.

Yeah, a L-jet 528i head will just bolt on and away you go. No issues.
