76 530i carbon canister hoses?
One hose comes from the tank. Does the other hose just vent to the atmosphere? Also what affect does running with a 35 year old carbon canister have on the engine if any?
No, it connects to the intake manifold, the main plenum, on the drivers side IIRC. There's a couple of different vacuum fittings on it, but only one big enough for the 8MM hose. I think it's 8, it might be 6. Left unconnected it would not do anything for emissions, it would have no point of being there. I'm unaware of it being any sort of a wear item, although I have heard of them being saturated by fuel if the tank is overfilled. Still, over time I would expect it to desaturate, or dry out.

Hose connection?
Mike I dont see where the hose would connect on the intake plenum? Where does it connect on your 528i?

The rigid line coming from the rear of the car is large diameter. The canister connections are a bit smaller and the intake manifold connection is even smaller. It takes a little creativity to get the right size hoses on those.
But if I recall correctly, you want a purge valve between the canister and the manifold. That is what I did on mine.
See the red vacuum hose between intake runner 1 and 2?

Hose routing
Blaise On my 76 there is hose on the pass side that connects to a tube that goes thru the frame. I'm assuming this goes to the gas tank but is not directly related to the canister? The hose is covered by a cloth like material and in the pictures you sent me before of your engine it looks like that hose is connected to the nipple between one and two runners! My carbon canister is located near the battery and I'm wondering if the hose on it should go to the nipple between one and two runners like someone suggested it does on the 528i. Also I have a hose that goes between 2 and 3 runners and in your pictures you don't appear to have one there at all?
