Change power steering filter

What's the trick for removing the clamp washer on the center shaft ?

The spring it holds in tension ain't exactly puny, and I'd like not to have to find, replace the washer.

Or, do we just ignore changing the filter for another ten years ?

I really don't see much of a need to replace the filter. If it's like E28s, you would need to compress it somewhat, then a U shaped washer just slides right off. That's one thing I've never been into on E12s.

I accept your wisdom. To H*** with it, it is.

Ready ? I'm taking my rusted 635 completely apart, getting the body hauled away.

To be replaced with a rust free 633, to be nicely restored using the best of all parts. 635 engine, five speed, Alpina suspension and toys, etc.

On this end of the delusion I may as well be reporting I'm building a pyramid with my own little wheel barrow.
