Hi guys,
I'm in the midst of going from 3 --> 5 speed and i'm short one pilot bearing.
Now, I could get under the car and measure the crank, but I figure someone can quote the specs of this bearing for me? I figure I can get one from the local bearing shop - acceptable?
I.D, O.D & Depth is what i'm after..
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Ben

RealOEM to the rescue.
03 - GROOVED BALL BEARING - 12X32X10 - 11211709681
Would I be correct in assuming that the covers (4,5,6) aren't required if I use a sealed bearing?

Yes, you would be correct. Just get a sealed bearing and forget about the rest of that junk.

Thanks Mike.
I found time to drop into my local clutch shop to pick one up. It's a very common size for a spigot bearing and only a few $'s.
Also managed to pickup an alignment tool for the clutch - very exciting!

Turns out the crank on my early M30 has a 21mm inside diameter for the bearing. Should have measured this earlier, haha.
I've ordered the 'needle bearing' and the covers instead. One day I even hope to have the gearbox back on...

You know, I've heard of that one, but in a whole bunch of M10 and M30 engines I've never seen one.

Yeah my 78 528i 5-speed (donor car) has the 32mm crank as expected.
I'm going to guess that the earlier M30's (E3/9) had the 21mm crank too.
