Are M30 heads/ camshafts / parts interchangeable ?

I'm cleaning, building a 635 Euro engine. Low (50,000) miles to be leaving the crank and pistons alone, but the head is a '78/'79 with an '81 spare. One of the cam lobes in the early head is noticeably worn.

Thus, am I free to mix, match, pick the best component parts to build the '81 head off a 528i, for the 635 ?

I bought a used M30 head from an 85 .....I think it was a 535i?....took it to a shop to get the seals replaced along with the old 76 530i head.....turns out the cam in the old head was in better shape than the later one I bought so I told them to put the 76 cam into the 85 head. I did the head install and it's running fine. Not sure if this helps your situation but I'm thinking what your trying to do should work. I'd double check with Mike on this forum.

Very much a mix and match sort of thing. You can even put a motronic cam in an L-jet engine with an adapter nut, but you can't go the other way and use L-jet in motronic. B35s get a little different, intake valves are different as are intake gaskets and ports. But other than that mix away, valves, cams, rockers etc.
