high rpm start up in summer-cold start valve?

After reading some post, I am thinking about this-

Whether it's really hot or really cold outside, when I start my 78' 530, it's goes to 1700 rpm to warm up

Once it's warmed up to normal running temp, it drops to 1000 rpm.

It's seems like this time of year, every one else' goes to only 1200 or 1300 and then drops.

May I have a cold start valve that is stuck or something? Can I clean it?

I've done the throttle body adjustment and timing and the car runs really good....just kinda wondering about the high rpm during starting in hot temperatures.

Thoughts/advice?

Thanks.

Sounds like an AAV problem to me. Search the archives (and the FAQ) for numerous discussions on both types of valves, one was water actuated and the later was electrical/heat controlled.

AAV is acronym for Auxiliary Air Valve. Go to Technical FAQ for full story.

thanks as usual

I looked at the FAQ's and it does pretty much sound like the A.A.V. is what is going on.

Guess I have something new to learn about.

Thanks again.
