It was a daunting experience to say the least but with the help of a neighborhood kid we wrestled the tranny down and back. I might have to forgo it this time until I get back in the house (got it in the settlement along with my life) and begin to make the garage a heated year round mecca. But maybe I can delay if the pressure plate holds out. It happened so fast makes me think it's a fluid thing. No one would do a clutch without replacing the pressure plate would they? Also an experienced wrench told me I might have to resurface the fly wheel. That throughs me back into the self-doubt tunnel again. Is that a big deal? on January 31, 1999 at 10:12:01:
If you pull the clutch, the flywheel is simple. It's held on by about 8-10 bolts. I had mine resurfaced for $65, but if the car really has only 130K it might not need it. OTH, if the rear oil seal has been leaking or brake fluid has been getting in there, the flywheel has to come off anyway.
Did I mention that if you're in there anyway, you might as well replace the rear oil seal whether it needs it or not? No big deal anyway.
