Thanks Chris.
Did it the way you said and it went together real easy. The years have taken it to toll on the rubber grommets. Had to order and wait for them. Now working on the sunroof opening.
Thanks again.

I am replacing the headliner on my 1981 e12 528i and did not write down the order of the metal cross rods that hold the headliner to the roof.
Question: does the straight rod go to the back (closess to the the back window) or does the rod the has a 2" bend at the ends ...

harness for pass. side mirror
If you can't find a harness, then it is easy to make one. That's what I had to do. The BMW connectors are hard to find, so I bought male/female connectors and wiring.
Then behind the driver's side speaker is a connector used to connect the passenger side mirror to the driver door switch that ...

access to bulbs on hvac
you will most likely have to remove the unit. But try to take the grill on the top off and see if you can see the bulbs from there. On my 81 e12 528i i was able get behind the controls when i needed to change the radio which is where your cigerette ash tray is. removing the grill gave me a good look ...

gear shift selector rod - 1981 528i
I should have said that all the parts are new. I had no luck finding these parts used. they were ordered using part numbers from realoem.
The shift rod is part number : 25111220539 , the shifter lower part : 25111220217 , and the gear shift rod joint : 25117503525. the ends of the gear shift joint ...

gear shift selector rod - 1981 528i
I am changing to manual from auto transmission. My question concerns the selector rod from the transmission to the shift lever lower part.
The selector rod at the shifter is longer then the transmission end. There is about 1/4 in. extra space at the shifter, even with the washers. Is this correct ...

refinishing the dashboard wood
I love to see good woodwork and Lenny yours look great! I would like to add a comment, not as a criticism, but as a WOODWORKER/FINISHER. To bring out the wood beauty and wood grain, the first top coat should be a high gloss and then tone done the gloss with a satin coat.

Try going to restoration specialties and looking under grommets in their catalog. You may have to improvise from what they have.

Continuation of auto to 5 speed conversion for 1981 528i
In reviewing diagrams on realoem for pedals I noticed differences in 2 diagrams for the firewall support. Only one has a part # (935111117947).
Everyplace I check ECS, Bavauto say the part is not for the 528i. The support on the auto I am converting only has holes for the brake and the steering ...

hose on master clutch cycl
Thanks Mike for the info. I looked on the brake expansion tank and sure enough there is a side outlet with a cap on it. I use the realoem pictures all the time to identify parts. My BMW manual dated 4/80 doesn't show anything about the 265/6 five speed trans.
Again thanks for the info

hoses on mastehr clutch cylinder
Doing a auto to manual trans on a 1981 bmw 528i. On Realoem diagram there is a hose that I don't know where it goes. Is there a expansion tank that is listed or does it attach to the brake expansion tank?
Any help would be appreciated.
