Illumination in clock and hvac panel

Post by Jelmer »

How do I get to the bulbs of the hvac and analog clock of my 76 E12? Do I need to remove the center console?

access to bulbs on hvac

you will most likely have to remove the unit. But try to take the grill on the top off and see if you can see the bulbs from there. On my 81 e12 528i i was able get behind the controls when i needed to change the radio which is where your cigerette ash tray is. removing the grill gave me a good look at the back side of the heat/ac controls.

You might be able to reach it by simply removing a center console side panel. Try to remove the side panel and see if you can reach the wires. On my car, I had incorrectly installed a clock wire and had to switch it once all of it was together. It was not easy, but I did it.
