80 528i A/C wiring

Can't get my A/C to function and I'm thinking it is because the red wire coming from the clutch on the compressor(about 6" long) goes to a plug, then 2 black wires hook to that plug, one wire goes up the freon hose to a switch on the bottom of the dryer, the other wire is broken off with about 1/4" hanging out of the plug. I've looked all over and can't find where that wire goes. I've looked at the wiring diagram and it shows the 2 wires one going to "stage 1 relay" the other going to "Compressor temperature switch" and then to "Change-over relay". If some kind soul could look at their car and tell me where this wire (I assume it is going to the "stage 1 relay")goes or where the "stage 1 relay" is. Well then I just may have A/C while the temps here in Phoenix are approaching 110. (it was so hot last week I saw 2 trees fighting over a dog!) Thanks in advance.

nevermind, i just ran a new wire to the relay which i spent 2 hours trying to find taking the drivers side cowl off and the fuse box apart ugh. and they say german engineers are good? they must've got better!~ at least since 1980
