Carb vs Injection 1977 530I
Ok guys I'm frustrated with a no start problem on my 1977 530I considering going with a simpler 390 CFM Holley Carb on a Euro manifold like the E9 and E3 guys do. I have the parts and think it will help my car be more reliable since it gets used maybe 1500 miles a year. What do you think?

I think it will probably be easier to sort your car out leaving it as fuel injected, than doing a conversion.Jeff Dennis wrote:Ok guys I'm frustrated with a no start problem on my 1977 530I considering going with a simpler 390 CFM Holley Carb on a Euro manifold like the E9 and E3 guys do. That's like using napalm to start a BBQ. Yeah, you could, it would work, but it's not the right answer. And if your no start is ignition related it wouldn't even fix it.

Yeah, that has it's points, but he was talking a plain old Holly 4 barrel.bizz wrote:Triple side-draft webers?
If I had the $'s this is what would replace my Zenith's, if only for the bling / noise

I think you need a different fuel pump and get rid of the fuel return line.
Might just make more problems.
If you feel like a conversion is the way to go, what about programmable EFI (Petronix, Microtech, Haltech, etc)?
Cheers

That would be interesting.. Our cars in Europe ran a solex carb the Holley is much better overall IMO. I woulld use the manifold off my european car and fit with a low pressure fuel pump and regulator.

You may have already seen it, but for future reference here's a good read:

I had been investigating replacements for the zeniths on my 528 & came across it.
